What is Neurodegenerative Disease?

Neurodegenerative diseases are disorders that affect neurons in the human brain.Degenerative nerve diseases affect many of our body's activities,such as balance,movement,talking,breathing,and heart function.Neurodegenerative Diseases include:

  • Alzheimer's Disease
  • Parkinson's Disease
  • Wernicke's Encephalopathy(Wernicke's Disease)
  • Dementia
  • Amnesia

Alzheimer's Disease

Named after the doctor who first discovered it{Alois Alzheimer},Alzheimer's forms new structures in the brain known as plaques and tangles,which cause the connection between the nerve cells to breakdown,eventually leading to the death of the cells and the loss of brain tissue.There is a recent increase in the number of Alzheimer's patients in the Middle East,The World Health Organisation (WHO) expects to see a 125% increase in cases of Alzheimer's  in the Middle East by 2050.
